To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Lachlan Macquarie's installation as governor in the colony of New South Wales, The Very Small Opera Company will return with the performance of Beethoven's only opera Fidelio which will be set in colonial New South Wales. The opera will be sung in English with the performers wearing period constume.

This opera dates from the period 1804-1814 and tell of a political prionser set free by his faithful wife. Its themes of justice, the rights of prisoners and their dreams of freedom are remarkably to this period of our history. The performance will be accompanied by a multimedia presentation showing scenes of life in the colony during Macquarie's time.
